The Junior Chamber International (JCI) in Oluyole, Ibadan, provided free medical outreach to people in the Abanla community in Oyo State on Saturday.
The programme was held at Abanla Health Centre, Idi Ayunre, in Oluyole Local Government, and about 162 residents benefited from free medical outreach.
The outreach programme consisted of various services, including treatment, blood pressure monitoring, heart rate monitoring, and temperature monitoring, along with malaria and sugar tests.
Additionally, free eye tests were provided alongside the distribution of reading glasses such as shoes, bags, food items, and water cans to over 150 households in the community, providing much-needed support to those facing economic challenges.
Speaking on the success of the outreach, the Southwest Major Emphasis Theme (MET) Director, Mr Kehinde Ajisafe, who graced the occasion, expressed satisfaction with the turnout and highlighted JCI Oluyole’s commitment to creating sustainable projects, having maintained the Abanla outreach for eight consecutive years.
Also, the JCI Oluyole 2024 President, Mr. Chikeluba Okonkwo, expressed happiness over the turnout of the residents of the Abanla community.
He said, “The impact of the outreach has been impressive over the years, and residents were so happy for another edition that took care of many of their medical needs.”
In their separate remarks, the immediate past president, Amoo Abiola Kafayat, Team Lead, Sustaining Abanla Medical Outreach; Olabisi Hamidat, first vice president; Kolade Oyekunle, second vice president; Itunu Adeduntan, Secretary General; Modupe Bode-Abitogun, Director of Brands and Communication; Damilare Israel, Director of Projects and Programmes; Justus Chineke, Team Lead, and Somtochi Ike said outreach stands as a good example of how collaborative efforts can make meaningful difference in the lives of underserved populations, fostering health and wellbeing for all.
JCI Senator Gbenga Olasoji, who also graced the occasion, talked about the improvement recorded in the community from its inception in 2017 till date.
He also shared how JCI Oluyole renovated and equipped the community health centre in 2021.
Meanwhile, the outreach also extended beyond medical services, as the group’s representatives paid a courtesy visit to the Palace of Alaba in Abanla Land. The gesture was met with appreciation and gratitude from the local leadership, further solidifying the positive impact of the initiative in their community.
One of the beneficiaries and one of the community leaders, Evangelist Adeoluwa Comfort, lauded JCI Oluyole for their gesture, saying their donation will go a long way in catering to their needs.
Also, one of the community clerics, Abdullazeez Olajide, thanked JCI Oluyole, stating that he has been a participant in most of the previous editions.
