Apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo has described as absolute falsehood claims that the late President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu will buried on September 25.
Reports had emerged in a section of the media (not Arogidigba Global Journal) claiming that the Ohanaeze announced September 25 as Iwuanyanwu’s burial date.
However, in a statement made available to journalists on Wednesday, issued by the National Secretariat of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, it urged the members of the public to ignore such reports.
The statement reads, “Our attention has been drawn to a report circulating in the social media indicating that the highly revered Igbo leader and President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu (AHAEJIAGAMBA NDIGBO) who passed on last Thursday, would be buried on September 25, 2024.
“The report which claimed that the Secretary General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Ambassador Okey Emuchay made the announcement after an emergency National Executive Committee meeting in Enugu was way off the mark, as nothing like that happened.
“The true position is that the NEC of Ohanaeze Ndigbo has cancelled the 2024 Igbo Day Celebrations slated for Owerri, Imo State on September 29, as a mark of honour for our fallen leader.
“This was the only place September was mentioned in the course of opening condolence register at the National Secretariat of Ohanaeze Ndigbo on Tuesday.
“However, consultations are ongoing with various stakeholders particularly the Imo State Government, South East Governors, members of the Imeobi which would soon meet, and others. A central burial committee will soon be announced.
“The general public is hereby urged to disregard any report or statement alluding that a burial date for the late President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Chief Iwuanyanwu, has been announced.”
