The Archbishop of Ibadan, Methodist Church Nigeria (MCN), Most Rev’d Olugbenga Fafeyinwa, has told President Bola Tinubu that the time has come to end insecurity, hike in prices of petroleum and gas products, injustice, corruption, religious fanaticism, banditry, and Boko Haram insurgency in country.
He made the disclosure in his address at the official opening of the 63rd annual synod of the MCN, Ibadan Diocese, with the theme: ‘He Will Rise Again’, held on Friday at MCN, Odo-Ona, Ibadan.
According to him, “As one thinks about our beloved country Nigeria, a nation blessed by God in all aspects, one cannot but weep. No doubt, our leadership problem is profound and complex, and unfortunately the followers do not help matters.
“But I take solace in God’s providence and capacity to act decisively with those He has chosen. God never fails, and His promise of divine intervention and redemption will never fail us.”
Fafeyinwa described as heartrending, series of information being dished out to the public from time to time by various news media, including financial corruption, kidnapping, assassination, and suicide bombing.
“The political cabal had cornered the country’s resources, holding all Nigerians to ransom. One is forced to ask if there is a solution in sight. This is because, from all indications, we have all come to our wits’ end and have come to conclude: ‘the things that work elsewhere do not work in Nigeria’. Why?
“The government under President Bola Tinubu should be vigilant and watchful on those people campaigning to bring ‘sharia’ to the South Western part of the country. We should be careful so as not to bring crisis or war into a society where peace reigns. Let us allow ‘sharia law’ to be practised where this can be accommodated.”
“Let our government at all levels ensure peace and stability, provision of regular uninterrupted power supply and diversify into other areas such as agriculture, tourism and solid minerals. All these will no doubt become means of job provision for the teeming unemployed youths in our nation.”
