Former Speaker of the United States, Nancy Pelosy, has described the Israeli’s Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu as the “obstacle to peace” between Israel and Iran.
Pelosi condemned Netanyahu’s approach to the war in Gaza, stressing that he “should resign.”
In an interview with Irish broadcaster RTE during a visit to Ireland, the former US Speaker said the October 7 attacks by Hamas on southern Israel which killed over 1,200 people and saw 253 people abducted were acts of “cruel brutality.”
She said: “We recognize Israel’s right to protect itself. We reject the policy of Netanyahu—terrible. What could be worse than what he has done in response?”
Asked if she considered Netanyahu a “block to peace” in the region, Pelosi said: “He has been for years.”
“I don’t know whether he is afraid of peace, incapable of peace or just doesn’t want peace, but he has been an obstacle to the two-state solution, so he’s been the problem,” she said.
