The crisis which rocked the election of Inter-Party Advisory Council, IPAC, in Enugu State, has finally been resolved.
Arogidigba Global Journal reported that there was a crisis during the election of new exco members at the Enugu State office of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC
The situation, which nearly degenerated into a free-for-all, was contained by a combined team of security agencies, including the police and the Department of State Services, DSS.
However, at the IPAC secretariat in Enugu on Tuesday, the warring factions reconciled, leading to the handing over of office to the new chairman, Mr Obioma Nnamani who doubles as Chairman of BOOT Party in the state.
The former chairman, Edwin Alor, was on hand to peacefully hand over to Nnamani.
In a remark, Nnamani said that IPAC would live up to its function by ensuring a high level of transparency and accountability in all its dealings.
“At the same time, we are going to ensure that the political parties have a good working relationship with INEC, ENSIEC and as well have synergy with the state government in the overall interest of the good people of Enugu State.
“The advice that I have for IPAC members is for all of us to join hands together as one family to pilot the affairs of the council to greater heights.
We recognise that we have our collective strengths when we come together. We have to leverage that in order to move IPAC forward,’’ he said.
On his part, the Special Adviser to Governor Peter Mbah on Political Matters, Frank Anioma, advised the body to maintain its position as a watchdog to hold the government accountable at all times.
He said: “My advice, like I said when I was talking to them, is for them to continue from where the immediate exco left.
“They should be making their voice heard in Enugu State. They should always collaborate with the incumbent government of Enugu State.
“They should have the slogan of the body which is good governance at the back of their minds as they do anything. So that they will continue to maintain and call the government to account for its actions.”
In his handover speech, Alor appreciated all members of his executive and the house for their patience, understanding and support that helped them succeed.
He further urged them to forgive all his errors and looked forward to a greater and a more formidable IPAC in Enugu State.
