Edozie Njoku, the National Chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, has called on the Federal Government to install closed-circuit televisions, CCTVs in courts across the nation
He said that doing this would help reduce the rate of atrocious activities perpetrated within court premises, even inside the courts, by those who are protecting the law.
The leadership tussle within the political party has defiled many court rulings, with the most recent judgement coming from a Buari Court, which ordered Victor Oyeh to stop parading himself as the National Chairman of the party.
“You’re aware that we’ve been in court. The other side, led by Victor Oyeh, said that after the lower court in Buari declared that they should vacate the office, that INEC should take my name as the national Chairman, they went for an appeal,” Njoku told reporters at the premises of Court of Appeal, Abuja.
“That appeal has been delayed for a while, but finally the appeal is over. But while the appeal was coming to an end, something took us by surprise.
“The lead lawyer from the other side tried to bring in some sort of judgment. After the case was decided, he told the judge that he had a case he wanted to bring and that it showed we don’t have any rights to come to court. I was startled.
“He went further to say that it was done on November 28. The court asked him to file it and serve us. But on serving us, we found out the case was cooked up somehow using a lawyer who was a plaintiff at the lower court.
“He came as a respondent. Names [of top party leaders] appeared on the suit even when they didn’t go to the Court of Appeal.
“But the judgment didn’t really affect our case because it was struck out. But you know the games they play. Once it’s struck out they’ll say they’ve gone to the court of appeal.
“Chief Chekwas Okorie was one of the people impersonated. It’s a terrible thing. I think the court should be fortified. Things like CCTV should start happening. I don’t see why there shouldn’t be CCTVs in court.
“The court should be well funded by the government. And if we’re not able to get up and stand for our rights…a fake judgment…they were the ones taking me to court for forgery. When someone is always talking about forgery, just know that person is capable of forgery.
“They were once accusing me of forging a Supreme Court judgment, but they’re the ones who have now come up with this major scam. It should be looked into very carefully.”
