Legislators of the Niger State House of Assembly have urged the state government to rehabilitate the route between Sarkin-Pawa and the Pole Wire junction in Munya Local Government Area along the Kaduna-Abuja expressway to forestall security breaches.
They adopted this position following the presentation of the report of the House Committee on Security and Intelligence on the oversight visit to some security camps in Munya and Paikoro local government areas of Niger State, carried out on Tuesday, April 23, 2024.
The report was presented by the committee chairman, Joseph Haruna Duza, the member representing Munya, during plenary presided over by the Speaker, Abdulmalik Mohammed Sarkin-Daji.
Duza, in his presentation, noted the importance of security as a major component of development while adding that the most crucial purpose of security is to protect people and their properties, which includes both their safety and stability.
The chairman also stated: ” In line with our legislative mandate, the committee visited the security formations of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), the Department of State Services ( DSS), Adamawa hunters, local vigilantes and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps ( NSCDC) in Munya and Paikoro local government areas.”
The lawmaker explained that the visit was to identify with the personnel and appreciate their contributions to maintaining peace in those areas ravaged by banditry, kidnapping, cattle rustling and other forms of crime.
He further disclosed that after the visit, the committee came up with some recommendations, which include the need for the Niger State Government to boost the welfare and logistics of the DSS camp at Mangoro Village in Sarkin Pawa for effectively discharging their duty.
“Government should ensure proper investment in security agencies in the areas visited to assist them in maintaining peace and stability in the troubled areas. Paikoro local government council should assist the police division in Paiko town with necessary logistics and welfare in order to achieve effective policing of its domain and this should apply also to the divisional police headquarters at Sarkin Pawa, ” Duza added.
The House, after the presentation of the report, deliberated on it and unanimously adopted all the recommendations of the committee.
