Improve agric, security, Katsina leaders tell Tinubu

As Katsina residents embrace the new year 2025 with great hopes, some residents of the state on Monday advised President Bola Tinubu on how to ensure a better 2025 for Nigerians.

The Chairman Struggle for Good Governance, Habibu Ruma, said the most important aspect that needs to be improved on by the Tinubu administration is the Nigerian economy.

She said, “When I say economy, I don’t mean the economy on paper where a common man cannot recognise any improvement on his table, yet only hear about GDP is now increased but with nothing tangible that impacts the life of the ordinary Nigerian.

“Tinubu’s administration should use any means possible to restore the value of the naira, look at any possible way to reduce the cost of fuel, improve power supply, among others.

“Furthermore, reducing trade barriers, improving trade facilitation, increasing access to reliable power supply, and improving the business environment. These are some of the areas that need to be the centre stage of Tinubu’s administration in 2025,” Habiba further noted.

Alhaji Ibrahim Al-Amin, a businessman from Kofar Guga, advised that the president should review some of the Federal Government’s economic policies, especially the pump prices of petroleum products.

According to him, “No matter the government’s argument supporting the hike in price of fuel, that decision remains the main cause of the economic hardship which has plagued the nation since the inception of the administration.

“Moreover, there is certainly no justification for Nigeria to continue to import refined petroleum products, especially fuel, when the retail price will eventually compete with our dwindling local currency.

“The government should also stop paying lip service to the issue of banditry, especially in parts of the north and elsewhere around the country.

“If the majority of farmers do not have free access to their farms, then food production will remain in jeopardy and elusive,” he said.

On his part, Ambassador Gidado Farfaru Mai Zandam advised that Tinubu should make sure that he gives full autonomy to the local government councils, and the local government election should be conducted by the national body.

“More attention should be given to agricultural development rather than giving priority to oil and gas business.

“Moreover, all the loans secured by the Federal Government should be appropriately managed.

“The issue of insecurity should be considered, the government should provide means of curtling illegal businesses within our border lines. Just to mention a few,” he stressed.
