Actor, model, and TikTok star Ufim-Onne Efut Ukam, better known as Celyn Ukam, has explained the essence of parental support in the career choice and success of their children.
Celyn Ukam, a social media celebrity, was born into a Christian home on April 22, 2000. The last child of a family of four hails from Biase Local Government Area of Cross River State. She experienced pure love at home from her civil servant parents who raised her with Godly virtues such as kindness, honesty, and respect for others. Whenever her family is together, they eat, play and make jokes as a sign of an indivisible bond.
Celyn Ukam bagged a degree in mass communication from Cross River University of Technology, now University of Cross River State, in 2021. With the understanding of her love for entertainment, she began to express her passion four years ago, in the midst of the global lockdown after the outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic. The fashion content developer has since brought to life depth of creativity with unparalleled content, which has amassed for her 4.1 million followers on both Instagram and TikTok. She has starred in multiple films and television shows, and has also become known for her fashion and style. At the age of 24, Ufim-Onne Efut Ukam has inspired many women.
The common story from most actors like her, singers and models are usually initial disagreement with their parents and family on the choice of career. However, Celyn Ukam disclosed that her parents have been extraordinarily supportive of her choice since the beginning, so much so that they back her with prayers as well.
“Luckily for me, I have my parents and family members who support what I’m doing. Everyone stands by me and there is no time to go into depression. My parents know I love entertaining people, so they are cool with my career. They love the fact that I decided to do something for myself and especially something that I love. I think parents should support their children in doing what they love and not just what they want for them as parents because there is an 80% possibility of a child being successful at what he/she loves than what the parents want for the child”, Celyn Ukam said.
“Also, I would say I’m one of the lucky ones with extremely supportive parents who believe I can be the best at whatever I set my mind out to do. I can understand that pursuing a career in fashion modeling and content creation can sometimes face resistance from some parents who prioritize more traditional career paths. It’s important to have open and honest conversations with your parents, explaining your passion and goals, and showcasing the potential for success in the chosen career. Our success is their ultimate goal anyway. My parents have been very supportive and prayerful. So my background has influenced my choice of career”.
Celyn Ukam admitted the disguise of nudity that accompanies modelling in the 21st century and decried the exploitation of young content creators who thrown caution into the wind, for the sake their ambition and desire to hit quick fame and wealth. The lifestyle enthusiast revealed that three is a moral line she would never cross as a professional model.
“I can’t go nude or semi-nude for any reason. Selling explicit content online can be a lucrative business. There are many content creators and influencers who use their bodies and revealing clothes on social media for different reasons. However, exposing too much of one’s body can also mentally harass them. Content creation and nudity have become the latest trend. There is no justification for going nude in disguise of content. Fashion trends and influencers have begun using clothing as a way to expose the body. However, these clothes are a way to pave the path to the rise of new fashion trends. However, nudity is still not justified. Wearing it for the sake of promoting the fashion trend is fine but showing nudity regularly is not appropriate,” Celyn Ukam stressed.
“Content creators in this era expose their bodies to create content and gain rapid success. Social media apps like Instagram, Facebook, and Tik Tok, are major platforms where this is seen in a great number. Whether nudity on content is right or not depends on the content creators and how it affects the audience. But as for me, I can’t do that.
“When considering whether nudity on content creation is right or not, you should first look and consider whether your talent in any manner requires you to wear revealing clothes. Talent does not ask for nudity, it asks for confidence, skills, determination, and self-esteem. You can learn how to boost self-esteem and work on acing your skills so that your talent pays you off, rather than resort for nudity”, added Celyn Ukam.
