Barr. Asue Ighodalo, the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) gubernatorial candidate for the forthcoming governorship election in Edo State, has promised to turn Uhunmwande Local Government Area into food basket of the state on assumption of office in November.
The PDP flag-bearer made the declaration in Egor, headquarters of Uhunmwande Local Government Area while addressing party members and supporters drawn from Ehor, Uhi, Igieduma, and Irhue Wards during his wards campaign tour of the area.
According to Ighodalo, who spoke in pidgin, Ehor, and by extension, Uhunmwande is blessed with huge expanse of very fertile land that is suitable for food, fruits, and cash crops even in commercial quantities.
The governorship hopeful added that for its rich endorsement in natural resources, the administration is prepared to industrialised and turn Uhunmwande into the state’s food basket as its economic blueprint places emphasis on agricultural development and industrialisation as major planks in his quest to further develop Edo.
“Ehor is the capital of fruits in Nigeria. We are going to bring in company to Ehor that will engage in fruit processing for the people.
“Uhonmhonde is very key to our developmental plan because of its rich natural endowments and inherent potential in agriculture.
“Let me assure you that in line with our development plans, we will turn this place into the fruits basket of the country”.
“We want to work for our people. Value who value you and our people must have a stake in the economy. We should all get ready for investors in the state,” Ighodalo assured the people.
Also addressing the people, the PDP deputy governorship candidate, Barr. Osarodion Ogie maintained that himself and Ighodalo wanted to be in government to improve the lives of Edo people.
“Whatever we are going to do to improve your lives, we will do. The road between Ihue and Urhue will be completed. You cannot spend all your time in the farm and will not see the road to evacuate your produce”, he said.
At Egbede and Uhen Wards in Ugoneki, the PDP candidate promised the people good governance, just as he promised that his administration if voted into office would address their peculiar needs.
However, some former Labour Party and All Progressives Congress members defected to the Peoples Democratic Party during Ighodalo’s visit to Uhunmwande on Tuesday.
Some of the decampees include Hon. Jegede Idemudia, Barr. Alari Felix, Mr. Nicolas Edokpagbe, Stephen Arogha, Vincent Omokaro, Paul Nosa, Alice Salami, Sunday Osasere, and Anthonia Micheal.
