A former member of the House of Representatives and aspirant of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the forthcoming governorship election of Ondo State, Honourable Mayowa Akinfolarin, has promised to ensure the continuity of the State Security Network, Amotekun, in the state if elected as governor of the state.
Akinfolarin, who gave this assurance while speaking at Igbekebo and Irele, the headquarters of the Ese-Odo and Irele council areas of the state, also promised to invest in the security of the state to attract investors and the development of the state economy.
The former Deputy Speaker of the State House of Assembly, who commended the efforts of the late Governor of the state, Rotimi Akeredolu, for investing in critical infrastructure and the creation of the Western Nigeria Security Network (WNSN), codenamed Amotekun, said the initiative must be sustained.
The two-time member of the House of Representatives vowed to prioritise tackling insecurity and investment in youths if elected in the November 16 governorship election in the state.
His words: “I will ensure the continuity and sustainability of the Western Nigeria Security Network, codenamed Amotekun Corps.
“This is because their activities and those of other security agencies like the police, army, NSCDC, DSS, and others over the years in protecting the people can’t be overemphasised.
“Also, if you give me the chance to become the governor of this state, I will operate an all-inclusive government that prioritises youth empowerment and job creation.
“In my government, partnerships between the private sector and the government will be explored for the benefit of all and sundry.
“We intend to create a loan scheme for businessmen and women where they will have access to loans without collateral. This we will do by standing as a guarantor for them.”
He promised to be accountable, accessible, and responsive to the needs of the people for the development of the coastal region and the state.
Akinfolarin said, “Just like I did when I was in the Ondo State House of Assembly and the House of Representatives, I will intensify poverty alleviation programmes with a specific focus on youth employment and empowerment because you will agree with me that an idle hand is the devil’s workshop.”
The Chairman of APC in Ese-Odo LG, Mr. Decent Okpinmi, while assuring the aspirant of support from party members in the council area, described Mayowa Akinfolarin as “a person I know who believes in equal rights.”.
His counterpart in Irele, Mr Zachariah Omoge, said APC members in the LG are strongly in support of Akinfolarin’s ambition because of his antecedents.
