Speaker of the Kwara State House of Assembly, Yakubu Danladi-Salihu, has said that the invasion of communities in the state will not be condoned by the government.

Speaking during a condolence visit to Ilesha-Baruba in Baruten Local Government Area, where alleged ‘Mahmuda’ terrorists recently launched a deadly attack, the Speaker assured the people that the perpetrators would be identified and brought to justice.

According to a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Shehu Abdulkadir Yusuf, the Speaker, who led a state delegation to the area, said Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq was devastated by the deadly assault that resulted in the loss of lives.

Accompanying the Speaker on the condolence visit were the member representing Gwanabe/Adena/Bani/Gweria, Hon. Ahmed Saidu Baba; the Executive Chairman of Baruten Local Government Council, Isa Jibril; and the All Progressives Congress chairman for Baruten Local Government, Abu Setraco.

The delegation’s first stop was the palace, to commiserate with the Emir of Ilesha-Baruba, Professor Halidu Abubakar, whose subjects lost their lives in the attack, before proceeding to console the families of the victims, the Ardo Fulani, and the Miyetti Allah community on Tuesday.

Danladi-Salihu delivered the government’s condolence message to the Emir and the bereaved families, emphasising that Governor AbdulRazaq was profoundly shaken by the tragic events.

“We are here on behalf of the government and people of Kwara State to register our sincere condolences over the unfortunate incident that led to the loss of lives of innocent people in our community. It is indeed a trying time for us all.

“We want to assure you that the invasion of our communities will not be condoned, and the perpetrators will be brought to book.

“His Excellency Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has directed the Nigerian Army, Nigerian Police Force, the Department of State Security Service, Nigerian Civil Defence Corps, and other security agencies to ensure that those behind the attack on innocent and unarmed people in our community are called to account,” he said.

The Speaker, while urging the people of Ilesha-Baruba to remain vigilant and support the security agencies with useful information, reassured them that the security forces would rid the community and other parts of the state of criminal elements.
