The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, along with other delegates from Nigeria, has joined Heads of Police Agencies and Police Chiefs from the 196 INTERPOL member countries to attend the 92nd INTERPOL General Assembly in Glasgow, United Kingdom, from Monday, November 4, to Thursday.
This was contained in a statement made available to news in Abuja on Monday by the Force Spokesperson, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), Olumuyiwa Adejobi.
According to the statement, “The Nigerian delegation, led by the Minister of Police Affairs, Sen. Dr Ibrahim Gaidam, and the IGP, accompanied by the Vice President of INTERPOL Africa, AIG Garba Umar (rtd), CP INTERPOL Olaolu Adegbite, the Principal Staff Officer to the IGP, CP Johnson Adenola, and others, will also hold bilateral meetings with members of Europol and delegates from other countries to discuss security issues as they pertain to global partnerships, governance, and data processing, in addition to general policing capabilities and organised global crimes.”
The Inspector-General of Police hopes to leverage the positive outcomes of the meeting to further strengthen the capacity of the Nigeria Police Force and the West African Police Chiefs Committee (WAPCCO), in his capacity as chairman, in its quest to curb organised crimes across the country and the West African sub-region.
The statement pointed out that the IGP reiterated the commitment of the force, through its Interpol unit, to continuously collaborate with other police institutions to ensure collaborative investigations of international crimes and thereby reduce the potential for such crimes within the nation’s borders.
