The Igbo King in Central Region, Ghana, HRH Eze Dr Igwe Chinedu Kingsley Igwe, JP, has urged the governor of Imo state, Hope Uzodimma, to save his community, Umuekebi in Isiala Mbano Local Government Area of the state, from the landslide ravaging the community.
In a statement issued and signed by the diasporian monarch on Saturday, he urged Uzodimma to intervene before the environmental degradation occasioned by the constant flooding on the only road connecting Umuekebi to Oriama, Mbano – Umuna highway claims human lives.
Igwe decried that the erosion menace had cut off access to vital facilities in the community and might wreck bigger havoc should nothing urgent is done to remedy it.
The monarch said that his community had done some interventions but it is now clearer that only the government can arrest the situation.
He said: “HRH Eze Dr. Igwe Chinedu Kingsley JP, Eze Igbo Central Region, Ghana, and a proud son of Umuekebi in Isiala Mbano LGA, Imo State, Nigeria, humbly bring to your attention a pressing issue affecting my community.”
According to him, the only road connecting Umuekebi to Oriama, Mbano – Umuna Road has been ravaged by flooding, leaving a treacherous path that threatens lives, hinders access to healthcare facilities, and cripples economic activities.
He said that despite community efforts, there is an urgently need for government’s intervention to restore this vital link.
He said: “I commend your administration’s commitment to road infrastructural development, which has brought significant progress to Imo State. I implore you to extend your benevolence to Umuorike-Umuekebi and save our community road.”
The monarch pointed out that Governor’s timely intervention will be a testament to his government’s dedication to the welfare of all Imo citizens.
He said: “Please, come to our aid. We look forward to your prompt response.”
