From Agaju Madugba, Katsina
Katsina State Chief Judge, Justice Musa Danladi, says a special electronic court is underway to handle corruption cases and related offences in the state.
“We are also going electronic because we are setting up an electronic evidence presentation system, from arrest, interrogation and collection of evidence,” Danladi said on Thursday when he played host to the Katsina State Anti- Corruption Commission.
He described “evidence” as the biggest problem in the judicial process arguing that a number of suspects had hitherto gone unpunished due to lack of evidence.
He said, “this is the age of technology and we have to base everything on the computer.
“In order to stem the tide of corruption in Katsina State, a special court will be designated for the trial of suspected offenders.
“The court will not do anything other than corruption cases and it will be equipped with an electronic evidence presentation system.
“We are going into a serious collaboration with you (Anti Corruption Commission) since it is a new baby.
“You need a lot of enlightenment, you must follow due the process and do not look at anybody but Katsina State.
“I want you to base all your operations on ICT.
“There are even some businessmen ready to support government.
“Do not go after civil servants alone, get contractors who are found wanting. Don’t allow anybody to go Scot-free.
“You have my full support and we are going to establish special magistrate courts in the three senatorial districts of the state,” the Chief Judge said.
Earlier, Chairman of the Commission, Justice Lawal Garba (rtd) explained that the familiarization visit was for judicial advice and to also intimate the Chief Judge with activities of the Commission.
He said, “by virtue of your office, you have the power to take over any criminal cases or to drop any and there is need for us to familiarize with your office and also advise us accordingly.”
