The Department of State Services (DSS) in Oyo State reportedly detained an Ibadan-based social media user, Idris Animasaun, for seven hours on Tuesday, Arogidigba Global Journal reports.
It was gathered that Animasaun was summoned to appear at the DSS office in the Alalubosa area of Ibadan by 10:00 am on the over some comments he made on his social media handles.
Arogidigba Global Journal gathered that Animasaun honoured the invitation at the time he was asked to report.
Our correspondent gathered that the young man was later released after seven hours. He was reportedly held at the DSS office from 10:00 am to 5.30 pm.
Amimasaun’s release was disclosed in a statement issued by Elite Broadcasters, an Ibadan based group.
The statement read, “Elite Broadcasters are pleased to announce that Mr Idris Animasaun, our Director of Media and Public Relations, popularly known as Longman, has been released by the Department of State Services (DSS), Oyo State Command.
“Mr Animasaun, who was invited for interrogation earlier today at approximately 10:00 am, has now safely returned to his colleagues after spending several hours in DSS custody.
“We would like to thank all members of the media community, concerned citizens, and colleagues who stood in solidarity with us during this period of uncertainty. Your support and swift reactions were invaluable in ensuring that the situation was resolved promptly.
“While we are relieved by Mr Animasaun’s release, we urge the DSS to continue fostering transparency and clear communication when engaging with the media and other concerned bodies.
“We believe that collaboration between security agencies and the media is essential for the progress of our democracy, and we hope for a future built on mutual respect and understanding. We remain committed to upholding the principles of free speech, accountability, and fairness in all our endeavors.”
The group had in an earlier statement on Tuesday raised the alarm over Amimasaun’s invitation by the security agency.
