The management of Academy Hospital, Iwo road, and Mokola Hilltop, Mokola roundabout, both in Ibadan, Oyo State capital, is organising a free antenatal registration and free consultation with doctors for at least 1,000 pregnant women.
This is part of the programme to celebrate ‘Safe Motherhood Day 2024’ organised by the health institution, which is targeted at making antenatal facilities easier and affordable for women having difficulties accessing good medical care due to lack of finances or other unforeseen circumstances.
Speaking on the programme, the chief medical director of the two hospitals, Dr Sunkanmi Adesina, said: “This will go a long way in reducing maternal death rate that occurs mostly in women who had little or no antenatal care during pregnancy.” Dr Adesina lamented at the rate at which many women refuse to attend hospitals and get good medical care and attention, especially during pregnancy.
“The first 20 women to register will be getting free blood tonic apart from all the other free services already stated to celebrate the day. “We shall also be giving free health education and our ultrasound services will go for just N1,000 that day,” Adesina noted.
The programme commenced on July 11 and also on July 18 by 12 noon at the said hospitals.
