The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has announced the temporary closure of the Samuel Ladoke Akintola Airport in Ibadan to facilitate ongoing upgrade works. The Authority said this development is part of the Oyo State government’s plan to upgrade the airport from a domestic hub into an international gateway.
The Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) has officially closed the airport’s runway, which FAAN says adheres to the regulations of the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO).
The Authority’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Obiageli Orah, said the remodelling and enhancement works aim to meet international aviation standards, ensuring the long-term safety and convenience of passengers and airport staff.
Orah emphasised that the closure aligns with recommended safety protocols. “This measure is essential to ensure the safety of all stakeholders during the construction period,” she stated.
FAAN appealed for patience and cooperation from all travellers and stakeholders affected by the closure.
The agency reaffirmed its commitment to achieving seamless travel experiences and maintaining safe, secure skies through this vital upgrade.
