A Tanzanian, Sophia Saidi at 86 years old, reflected on her life, expressing regrets over not experiencing marriage, parenthood, or romantic relationships in her youth.
Sharing her reasons for remaining single and childless with Afrimax English, Sophia recalled,
“I kept men at arm’s length, prioritizing my independence. Suitors would express love, but I’d assess their potential for financial stability. I thought I was being clever, but now I see the consequences.”
She also revealed, “In my family, arranged marriages were the norm. I resisted, wanting to choose my own partner. To avoid the men my parents selected, I would run away to where no one can find me. I believed age wasn’t a factor and that maintaining my virginity would ensure a good marriage prospect.”
