Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano State has expressed delight over the verdict of the Supreme Court on the 2023 governorship election dispute.
Arogidigba Global Journal recalls that the apex court nullified the judgement of the Appeal Court on Friday, which earlier sacked the governor.
The lower court earlier held that the governor who was elected on the platform of the New Nigeria Peoples Party, NNPP, was not a member of the party at the time of the election.
However, the Supreme Court on Friday set aside the Appeal Court’s decision, saying Yusuf was duly elected.
Reacting to his victory, the governor told newsmen in Kano that he feels justified, stressing that the issues surrounding his victory have finally come to an end.
He added: “I am extremely happy with the judgement of the Supreme Court that took place today, January 12, 2024. The Supreme Court has confirmed that there was no illegality as far as the election is concerned.
“They were saying illegal ballot papers; INEC had confirmed that the ballot papers belonged to them; they were issued by them and the Supreme Court justices have just confirmed that there was no illegality and the people are aware.
“I feel justified; I feel that that issue has been set aside because there were no justifications whatsoever.”
