The impeached Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon. Mudashiru Obasa, has denied allegations of misappropriation of funds and abuse of office leveled against him by members of the House.
The lawmakers had, on Monday, January 13th, 2025, removed Obasa over allegations of gross misconduct and poor leadership, including perpetual lateness to legislative sessions and meetings, as well as gross abuse of office and privileges, among others.
Speaking at a reception organized by his supporters on Saturday, Obasa described the allegations as politically motivated and rooted in ill will.
He declared that he neither spent N17 billion on the construction of a gate nor N45 billion to procure Hilux vans for lawmakers.

He dismissed all the allegations as false and mere speculation.
He said, “I must take this opportunity to debunk the reports that have been circulating. It was said that I spent N17 billion to construct an ordinary gate. How is this possible? Is it the Wall of Jericho or the US-Mexico wall?
“We are a 40-member House of Assembly. For security reasons, we bought 45 Hilux vans, and now they claim that we spent N45 billion to procure the vans.
They said I spent N1 billion to purchase a single van. How can someone claim to buy a Hilux van for N1 billion? Is it a limousine? Is it possible to buy a Hilux van for N1 billion?
“Talking about Thanksgiving, they should compare the one they said we spent N200 million on to the one organized by the state government.
“I am not disturbed or perturbed, and I am not afraid. I will debunk all the allegations leveled against me by the House.
“I have not done anything wrong. I have been a lawmaker for over two decades and am the longest-serving lawmaker in the House.
“They should not discredit an innocent person; they should prove their allegations against me.
“The Lagos State House of Assembly is above common standards of excellence. I believe in the image of our institution, and we must not destroy it. I will never partake in its destruction.”
He expressed his gratitude to President Bola Tinubu, members of the Governance Advisory Council (GAC), and the state governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
“I appreciate the members of the Governance Advisory Council (GAC) and Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu of the state. He is my brother, and he always calls me his younger brother,” he stated.
“I also thank Nigeria’s First Lady, Mrs. Oluremi Tinubu, and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who has always been like a father to me.”
