As part of efforts to combat increasing crimes and to enhance the safety of the Nigerians against kidnapping, banditry, armed robbery, and related crimes, a human rights organization, Active Success & Empowerment Initiative (ASEI) has set up a private security outfit, ASEI Security Network of Nigeria (ASENOF).
The National President and Chairman, Board of Trustees of ASEI Security Network of Nigeria (ASENOF), Adewumi Babalola, said the security outfit was put in place with a view to stemming the tide of violent crimes in the country.
Babalola while speaking to newsmen in Akure, the state capital, said the formation of ASENOF became imperative to substantially reduce the ever-increasing violent crimes across the country.
According to him, the new security outfit is in response to growing cases of banditry, robbery, kidnapping, and cybercrime spreading like a wide fire throughout Nigeria.
Babalola said the formation of the security outfit was to complement government efforts and support the existing security framework to drastically reduce if not eliminate crime in Nigeria.
He said other objectives of the ASENOF are to create public awareness, citizen engagement, community policing, intelligence sharing, and collaboration with government at all tiers of security.
Expressing the belief that ASENOF has the potential to make a significant and positive impact on the security architecture of the country.
Babalola said the outfit is set to recruit about 20,000 young men and women but will first train about 5,400 averaging 300 personnel per local government area of the state while the remaining 14,600 will be on the reserve list.
He therefore, appealed to government at all levels, corporate bodies, religious and non-governmental organisations to come to the aid of the security outfit as it will need over N250m to kickstart the security outfit.
He said the fund will be used for the design and development of ASENOF cultural handbook, printing, and publishing of 20,000 copies of same handbook, uniforms, boots, intercom facilities, walkie-talkies, training of personnel, office accommodations, office equipment, flag-off of operations of ASENOF among others.
