The National Orientation Agency (NOA) has stated how the tax reform bills will reduce the burden on hardworking Nigerians and protect the less privileged.
The bills, which are before the National Assembly, continue to spark heated debate, with northern governors voicing their opposition.
Speaking in Abeokuta on Wednesday, NOA Director General, Lanre Issa-Onilu, who was represented by the Ogun State Director of the Agency, Funke Salako, said the bills are meant to ease citizens’ burden and ensure that everyone makes a fair contribution.
Issa-Onilu disclosed that the four different bills at the National Assembly seek to put everything about taxation and administration of tax in the country under four pieces of legislation.
The bills, according to him, are the Nigeria Tax Bill, the Nigeria Tax Administration Bill, the Nigeria Revenue Service Establishment Bill, and the Joint Revenue Board Establishment Bill.
“By supporting this effort, we can create a tax system that works for all and funds the development projects that will improve our nation,” he said.
“Today, we are commencing a nationwide mobilization of Nigerians to unite in our commitment to addressing these pressing issues and fostering a more informed, secure, and ethical society.
“The challenges before us require collective action and active participation from all Nigerians,” Issa-Onilu said.
