Some suspected kidnappers and gun-runners allegedly responsible for terrorising several states across the nation have been killed by men of the Nigeria Police Force.
The Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, who disclosed this in a statement on Friday, said the suspects were killed on Thursday.
Adejobi, in the statement, described the development as “yet another feat” recorded in the ongoing fight against crime and criminality in the country.
He also said it was part of the sustained efforts to cleanse the system of criminals, most especially kidnappers.
“In the early hours of February 8, 2024, some notorious kidnappers and gun-runners, who have been terrorising Abuja, Kaduna, Kogi, and Nasarawa states, were neutralised by IRT operatives at their hideout around Gitata, along Keffi Gidan Wire Road, Nasarawa State.
“Similarly, four AK47 rifles, weapons, and a bag of ammunition were recovered. These neutralised individuals have also been involved in supplying arms to bandits operating within the same axis,” the statement read in part.
Kidnapping and banditry have risen across the country since President Bola Tinubu assumed office on May 29, 2023.
Bandits have abducted several Nigerians and received ransoms running into millions of naira.
However, Adejobi added that the NPF would continue to employ all necessary measures to rid communities of criminal elements and maintain peace and order across the nation.
