The Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly, Blessing Agbebaku, has stated that members wore white attires to the plenary sitting on Wednesday to celebrate the governor-elect of the state.
Arogidigba Global Journal reports that the Speaker, who congratulated Senator Monday Okpebholo, the winner of the September 21, 2024, governorship election, noted that the governor-elect was for the entire state and not just for the APC.
“I want to thank God for seeing us through our election, and let me also say that the election has come and gone. I want to congratulate all of us because the governor coming is not for the APC alone but for the entire Edo State.
“He will be our governor very soon. But for some people trying to say that it is their governor, he is not a governor for the APC alone.
“He is governor for all of us, and that is why you see us wearing white attire today,” he said.
Agbebaku, however, prayed to God for guidance and protection for the incoming governor, as well as wisdom to surpass what he will encounter on the ground.
The Speaker, who opined that the governor-elect, Senator Monday Okpebholo, was a man of his word, also prayed to God to ward off those who would seek to mislead him and hinder his success as governor of the state.
“We pray that God will eradicate those who would mislead him, and God will help him to succeed.
“Those sycophants who would want to mislead him and prevent his success—God will take them away from him.
“I know he is also a man of his word. So, we congratulate him,” he added.
Arogidigba Global Journal recalls that the House had proceeded on annual recess on August 14, 2024, and resumed on October 2, 2024, after the off-cycle gubernatorial election.
