Heart Doctors from Greece have commended Niger State Governor, Mohammed Umaru Bago, for his exceptional leadership, which has fostered economic growth and brought about rapid development in Niger State.
Mrs Eheni Sotinou gave the commendation on behalf of the Heart Doctors during the commissioning of a Primary Healthcare Centre constructed by Heart Doctors at Gusun Village, Kabo Ward in Gurara Local Government Area of Niger State.
The project, tagged “Heart Doctors Project 2025,” was facilitated by a former Commissioner of Health in the state, Dr Mustapha Jibrin Alheri.
Mrs Eheni Sotinou praised the exemplary leadership of Governor Umaru Bago, saying that since their intervention across the world, Africa, and Nigeria, they have never received a warm reception like the one Governor Bago gave them in Niger State.
She explained that they visited Gusun community on November 9, 2024, and were moved to assist after seeing the deplorable state of the facility.
“We came from Greece, we learned from our fathers to assist. We went through our hearts, and we never asked for money from the government. Our assistance is from our pockets,” she explained.
The Heart Doctors’ team, comprising husbands and wives, emphasised that they do not discriminate based on religion or tribe.
“We understood that we are all one, and God is one. We try to help people to be balanced in life,” Mrs Sotinou added.
She promised that Heart Doctors would construct a borehole in the healthcare facility to provide potable water in the facility.
She advised the community members not to imitate anyone but to be themselves, saying, “every country has its own peculiar problems and we urge Nigerians to love one another and help each other.”
She promised that Heart Doctors would also donate a borehole to the community for access to potable water.
In his remarks, an erstwhile Commissioner of Health and Hospital Services in the state, Dr Mustapha Jibrin Alheri, who facilitated the project, thanked Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago for his developmental strides, which have attracted investors to the state.
He commended the people of the community in Gurara LGA of the state for their cooperation and thanked the Heart Doctors for their intervention in Niger State in particular and the country as a whole.
Dr Jibrin Alheri praised the Governor Bago-led administration, saying, “Throughout their intervention in the country, nobody has accepted them like Governor Umaru Bago.”
He called on the people to support the Bago-led administration and thanked the Gurara Local Government Council chairman for donating four fans to the facility and a generator set.
Dr Jibrin Alheri, however, appealed to the people of the community to maintain the facility.
The Secretary of Gurara Local Government Council, Sadaiuki Abubakar, who represented the Council Chairman, thanked the Heart Doctors for the facility and Dr Mustapha Jibrin Alheri for facilitating the construction of the health facility.
He expressed happiness for the facility and the governor’s support in carrying out the project.
The village head of Kabo, Alhaji Salisu Ahmadu, commended the Heart Doctors for coming to the aid of the community with the health facility.
“The gesture would never be forgotten and would stand the test of time,” he said.
Alhaji Ahmadu appealed for a medical doctor to be deployed to the facility to attend to the people.
“The doctors have seen the situation the community is in, and I believe the donors would make a way for the community to get an accessible road,” he added.
Other members of Heart Doctors in attendance were Dr John Sitiriou, Mr Pantelis Ypsilantis, and Mrs Mairi Ypsilantis.
The commissioning ceremony was attended by stakeholders, community leaders, and residents of Gusun Village. The event marked a significant milestone in the efforts to improve healthcare services in the area.
The project is a testament to the commitment of Governor Umaru Bago’s administration to improving healthcare services in Niger State. The administration has been working tirelessly to upgrade healthcare facilities and provide necessary equipment to ensure effective service delivery.
Heart Doctors’ intervention in Niger State cuts across maximum health integrated service and improvement of lifestyle to provide drugs, clinics, primary schools, food items, and boreholes across several communities in Niger since 2008 to date.
