The Edo State Government on Monday said that Mr Charles Idahosa, former Special Adviser to former Governor Adams Oshiomhole, who recently joined the opposition All Progressive Congress (APC) in the state, was never a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)’s Board of Trustees (BoT).
Idahosa, it would be recalled, had earlier on Monday, while receiving the leadership of the Edo APC in his house, dumped the PDP, with a boast that the APC would win the September 21, 2024 gubernatorial election in the state.
The politician and a staunch supporter of Governor Godwin Obaseki during his faceoff with Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, and reputed to have midwifed Obaseki’s joining the PDP and securing his second term ticket under the platform of the party, had penultimate week, officially resigned his membership of the PDP.
Reacting to the development, Edo State Commissioner for Communication and Orientation, Mr Chris Nehikhare, described Idahosa as “a butter and bread politician”.
Nehikhare, who spoke at a press conference held at the Government House, in Benin, said that Idahosa had never left the APC as he retained the Board appointment he got while in the APC, even after moving with Governor Obaseki to the PDP in 2020.

“I want to say that Honourable Idahosa is being dishonourable at this time. He claimed to be a member of PDP Bot, I challenge him to state where and when he was sworn in as a BoT member. He was never a member of PDP BoT. He was nominated as a BoT member of the PDP but his nomination was rejected by the party
“Idahosa has nothing to offer any political party he joins. He is old. And my advice to him is this: Epa, go and rest”, Nehikhare dismissed.
The commissioner also accused the APC of running a campaign based on propaganda, reiterating that “propaganda is not a strategy; Ede deserves better.”
He noted that in its desperate move to win the forthcoming election, the APC had decided to drag the Oba of Benin into the murky water of politics, and warned that the revered monarch should not be dragged into politics.
“Since the APC, as a party, has no strategy, the PDP will trample on them in the governorship election. The APC has nothing to show on how they want to serve the Edo people better other than propaganda”, Nehikhare added.
On the contrary, he noted that the PDP-led government of Governor Obaseki was the first to pay N70,000 minimum wage to workers besides providing infrastructure in various sectors in the state.
