A Human right group, Active Success and Empowerment initiative for Human rights, (ASEI) has appealed to state government and other stakeholders to obey the recent court order and allow member of the National Road Transport Workers (NURTW) to carry out their legitimate duties within the ambit of law.
In a statement issued by ASEI and signed by its lawyer, Olaniyi Olamide, said that, NURTW National President, Professor Tajudeen Baruwa has the constitutional rights over the affairs of Ondo NURTW having been declared as the National president by the court of appeal .
Olamide who called on all Stakeholders and relevant authorities in the state m to respect the court ruling and allow Ondo NURTW functions under the rule of law.

The statement reads, “It is on record that many factions emerged in NURTW Ondo State few years ago due to:Failure of election into office democratically elected Chairman of NURTW Ondo State after the expiration of the tenure of Jacob Adebo (Idajo) due to involvement of Ondo State Government which is not in conjunction with the Union’s Constitution and their choice of candidate for Chairman.
“Imposition of a group on members in NURTW Ondo State, forcefully taken over of NURTW Ondo State Motor Parks and Administrative office by Ondo State Government.
“A faction of NURTW Ondo members were allowed to carry out their business activities while others were not allowed.
“The legitimate executives of NURTW Ondo State Council were not recognised or allowed to perform administrative duties.“
“In view of the above, the Caretaker Committee appointed by our client with Comrade Oluwatoyin Adeoye as Chairman instituted Court action at National Industrial Court of Nigeria, Akure and was vindicated by the Court judgement.
“The aftermath of the Court decision was not considered by the Ondo State Government.
“The institution of court action by our office at the Federal High Court, Akure against the Ondo State Government and their officials for disobeying Court decision and the Enrolment of Order issued by the Court to vacate unauthorised persons at the NURTW Motor Parks in Ondo State.
“There was National President position tussle among the warring factions at the National headquarters office, Abuja to determine the authentic National President of NURTW.
“The Court of Appeal, Abuja has delivered its judgement on 8th November, 2024 declaring Prof. Tajudeen Ibikunle Baruwa, our client as the constitutional elected President of NURTW while the Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Federation ordered the resumption into office on 18th November, 2024.
“NURTW is a registered organisation under the extant laws of the Federal Government which requires its functions under the law that established it without the interference of any State Government.
“We urge the NURTW stalwarts, members and relevant authorities in Ondo State to take note of the Court decisions and abide with them or face the wrath of the law.”
