Ahead of the governorship election in Ondo State, the PDP Crusader Group, a group within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has urged members and leaders of the party in the state to chart a course for ensuring enduring peace and unity.
The Coordinator of the group, Hon. Mayokun Akinmoladun, issued this charge, urging the chieftains of the party in the state to reconcile their differences, galvanize the party, and reposition it to restore its dwindling fortunes.
According to him, the call for peace and unity among party leaders and members is necessary as it remains the only panacea for success in the next gubernatorial election. He called for genuine reconciliation to ensure total victory for the party in the state.
Akinmoladun expressed concern over the party’s failure to win back the state from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), noting that the PDP has been losing past elections in the state due to disunity, vengeance politics, and anti-party activities during elections.
He expressed optimism that if the leaders and members of the party put their in-house differences behind them, the party would be unbeatable in any election.
However, he noted that zoning or consensus is just the least of the problems confronting the party, stating, “If we genuinely agree and all hands are on deck, whoever we pick will definitely win the next governorship election.”
Akinmoladun emphasized the need for critical stakeholders within and outside the state, irrespective of their political leanings, to step in and ensure they chart the way forward for enduring peace in Ondo.
He urged PDP chieftains in the state to bury their hatchets immediately and work towards resolving their differences in the interest of the state, which has suffered too many violent conflicts in the past.
Akinmoladun noted that the people of Ondo state are already tired of the APC government and said, “If we speak with one voice, victory is sure in the next election.”
He commended the governor of Oyo state, Seyi Makinde, for his support for the party and called for his support ahead of the next governorship election in Ondo state.
He also hailed the National leaders of the party for charting a way out for the Ondo PDP during a meeting held in Abuja ahead of the governorship election. The leaders in attendance included the Acting National Chairman of PDP and his led Exco, the South West chairman of the PDP, Taofeek Arapaja, Governor Seyi Makinde, and all the stakeholders of PDP in Ondo state, former governor of Ondo state, Olusegun Mimiko, former gubernatorial candidate of PDP in the state, Eyitayo Jegede, and all the aspirants of the party for the election.
