The Women Maker Series has announced its collaboration with the Lagos State Government, through the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture, to empower women in Lagos.
The group said the partnership is a testament to the trust and confidence the state places in this impactful initiative, as well as its recognition of the urgent need to address long-standing challenges faced by women in economic empowerment.
The economic realities of today demand innovative solutions to ensure the populace remains empowered and prepared to navigate the complexities of financial uncertainty.
The Women Maker Series, convened by Winifred Okpapi, embodies the belief that empowering women is central to building a stronger, more resilient nation. This philosophy is encapsulated in the mantra: “Build a woman, and you build a nation.”
Speaking on the programme Okpapi, who is the Founder, said: “The Women Makers Series was born out of a desire to see more women turn their creativity and craft into sustainable businesses. So many talented women in Nigeria create beautiful, functional, and innovative things with their hands, yet they lack the resources, knowledge, or platform to scale their skills into thriving enterprises. This initiative is about equipping them with the tools, training, and network they need to transform their passion into profit. It’s more than just a program—it’s a movement to empower women to take ownership of their talents and build lasting legacies.”
“This collaboration with the Lagos State government underscores the critical role of public-private partnerships in addressing societal challenges. By combining the resources and expertise of the Ministry of Tourism, Arts & Culture with the innovative vision of Grid & Nodes Africa, the Women Maker Series aims to equip women with the skills and opportunities to thrive in the current economic landscape,” she said.
According to the Special Adviser to the Governor on Tourism, Arts, and Culture, Idris Aregbe, supporting women in the arts and culture space, promotes gender equality and empowers women entrepreneurs, artists, and creators, enabling them to thrive in their fields. Initiatives that highlight women makers can stimulate economic growth by fostering small businesses, enhancing local economies, and creating job opportunities.”
Coming up on Saturday, March 29, 2025 in Lagos, participants can look forward to a rich lineup of activities, including practical workshops, art therapy sessions, panel discussions, brand activations, business setup assistance, and much more.
