The Chairman of Matori Farmers Cooperative Association (FCA), Comrade Michael Popoola Ajayi, has expressed his profound gratitude to the Federal Government and Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for their commitment to enhancing food security and empowering farmers across Lagos State through the distribution of agricultural inputs and productive assets to over 10,000 farmers, including members of the Matori FCA.

Ajayi also lauded the Lagos State Commissioner for Agriculture, Ms Abisola Olusanya, and Mr Ade Obafemi, the Lagos State FADAMA Coordinator, for their efforts in the same direction, noting that the timely distribution of these essential farming tools and inputs would significantly bolster food production efforts in the state and further strengthen the agricultural sector.

The FCA, Matori chapter chairman, said this in a release issued on Sunday, a copy of which was made available to newsmen, even as he specifically acknowledged the relentless support of Governor Sanwo-Olu and Ms Olusanya, whom he said had consistently advocated for the upliftment of farmers in Lagos and ensured that farmers like those in the Matori FCA were not left behind.

“This support could not have come at a better time. We are extremely grateful to the Federal Government for prioritising agriculture and recognising the vital role farmers play in the nation’s development.

“The efforts of the Lagos State Governor and the Lagos State Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Systems are laudable, and we appreciate their dedication to ensuring that farming communities across the state, including those in Mushin and other parts of Lagos, have access to the tools they need to thrive,” he said.

“Mr. Ade Obafemi’s leadership and contribution to the smooth execution of this initiative have been instrumental in ensuring its success. We applaud his tireless efforts and express our sincere appreciation for his hard work in ensuring that the programme reached the grassroots level,” he added.

Ajayi noted that the distribution of agricultural inputs and productive assets would significantly increase the productivity of farmers, improve food security, and provide sustainable livelihoods for the beneficiaries, adding: “Matori FCA is optimistic that this initiative will help reduce the challenges faced by farmers and contribute to the overall economic development of Lagos State and the country at large.”

He reiterated that the Matori FCA remained committed to ensuring the effective utilisation of the distributed inputs and assets for increased agricultural productivity, assuring the government and other stakeholders that the association would continue to contribute positively to the agricultural sector and sustain the trust placed in them.

Ajayi, however, expressed optimism that this partnership between the government and farmers would continue to grow, enabling further support and development in the agricultural sector.
