Governors of the All Progressives Congress (APC), along with Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Speaker of the House of Representatives Honourable Tajudeen Abbas, and other APC chieftains, are set to convene on Tuesday at the Ladi Kwali International Conference Centre, Abuja Continental Hotel, Abuja.
Their mission is to brainstorm on the way forward for the ruling party.
According to a statement signed by the National Progressives Hub (NPH), a support group of the APC, the symposium is being organised to celebrate one year of purposeful leadership under Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje and Senator Ajibola Basiru as the National Chairman and National Secretary of the governing party.
The National Coordinator of the Forum, Honourable Bukky Okangbe, stated that the session “is also aimed at highlighting the leadership challenges encountered by various political parties in the country, with a view to proposing solutions that will further strengthen party administration and deepen democracy and democratic ethos.”
“The Dean of the School of Postgraduate Studies at Baze University, Abuja, and political commentator, Professor Abiodun Adeniyi, will present a keynote address titled ‘Political Party Leadership in Nigeria: Challenges and Prospects’ at the Ladi Kwali International Conference Centre, Abuja Continental Hotel, Abuja, at 10 am.”
“Eminent Nigerians and party leaders scheduled to discuss the paper include the former Director General of the Voice of Nigeria (VON) and a founding member of the party, Mr Osita Okechukwu, former National Secretary of the party, Arch. Waziri Bulama, and Barrister Alphonsus Eba Ogar, APC Cross River State Chairman and Secretary of the Forum of APC State Chairmen.”
The Deputy President of the Senate, Distinguished Senator Jibrin Barau, will serve as the Chairman of the occasion, while the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas; Chairman of the House Committee on Appropriation, Hon. Abubakar Kabir Bichi; and Minister of State, Housing and Urban Development, His Excellency Abdullahi Tijjani Gwarzo, will be the Special Guests of Honour.
The National Chairman of the party, Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, is the Chief Host, while Coordinating State Governors and top party leaders are expected to deliver goodwill messages.
Recommendations from the symposium will be forwarded to the party’s newly established Progressive Institute as part of the National Progressives Hub’s (NPH) contributions towards strengthening the nation’s fledgling democracy.
