Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, has vowed to intensify security measures following the interception of a large cache of weapons smuggled from the Niger Republic by a suspected gunrunner.
The seizure, carried out by the Department of State Services (DSS), took place in the state’s capital, Gusau.
At the handover ceremony of the seized weapons in Gusau, Lawal expressed his deep gratitude to the DSS and other security agencies for their synergy and proactive intelligence gathering that led to the successful interception.
He said, “I commend the DSS and all security agencies for their diligence and coordination.
“These weapons could have ended up in the hands of criminals terrorizing our people.”
The governor reiterated his administration’s commitment to supporting security forces in the fight against banditry, kidnapping, and other crimes affecting the state.
Governor Lawal also appealed to the public for increased cooperation with security agencies.
“I call on the public to support security efforts by providing credible intelligence and cooperating with law enforcement agencies,” he urged.
Assuring residents of continued government support for security agencies, the governor emphasized that his administration would remain dedicated to strengthening counter-banditry operations throughout Zamfara and the broader Northwest region.
