Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State has expressed gratitude to those who donated generously to the rebuilding of the Malam Abdulkarim Juma’at Mosque in Zaria and urged others to contribute towards the realisation of the project.
The Governor commended Alhaji AbdulSamad Isyaka Rabiu, who served as the chief launcher, and thanked other donors during the groundbreaking ceremony for the mosque’s reconstruction on Sunday.
The 187-year-old mosque caved in on August 11, 2023, resulting in the tragic loss of six lives and injuries to 10 others. A committee established in October 2023 to raise funds for the reconstruction successfully secured over ₦2 billion for the project.
Governor Sani reminded attendees of the spiritual benefits of contributing to the rebuilding of the mosque, stating that such acts would yield rewards in the hereafter.
Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony, the Governor pledged that the reconstruction would be completed within one and a half years, by the grace of God. He acknowledged the overwhelming support from people of goodwill, noting their quick and generous responses as a testament to the mosque’s significance and the importance of religion in personal and national life.
“The speed and manner in which people responded is a testament to the high esteem in which this great monument is held and the place of religion in our personal and national life,” he said.
Governor Sani also lauded the Emir of Zazzau, Ambassador Ahmed Nuhu Bamali, for his inspirational leadership since the tragic incident, praising the Royal Father for working tirelessly to ensure a befitting edifice is erected.
“Today, therefore, marks the beginning of the journey of restoration,” the Governor concluded.
