Kano Governor Abba Yusuf has signed into law the Kano State Emirate Council Establishment Bill 2024, creating three new second-class emirates in Gaya, Rano, and Karaye.
The bill was passed by the state House of Assembly on Tuesday.
Governor Yusuf praised the state House of Assembly for discharging their constitutional duty by passing the bill, which paved the way for the creation of the new emirates.
He believes that the creation of these emirates will revive cultural heritage and development in the areas and the state as a whole.
The governor emphasised the importance of traditional institutions in fostering peace and development, and commended the efforts of the state House of Assembly in ensuring the passage of the bill.
He said the government would soon announce the newly-appointed emirs for the new emirates.
The Speaker, in his remarks earlier, said “It is for the overall development of Kano state. It will bring people closer to the government. It would foster even development in the areas”.
