Governor Bassey Otu of Cross River State and the former military administrator of Kwara State, Col Pam Ogar, rtd, have called on critical stakeholders in the northern part of the state to unite and do everything legally possible to ensure that Ogoja is one of the states to be created.

Recall that two weeks ago, the House of Representatives released a list of more states they have proposed for creation which included Ogoja, a vast expanse of northern Cross River State.

Followiing the reccommendations from the lawmakers, the Old Ogoja Province People’s Initiative organized a public forum yesterday to harmonize their position and demand for a new state.

The lead convener, Papa Dorn Cklaimz Enamhe said the people and the state are ready and the time is now.

He disclosed how he met with the State governor, Senator Bassey Otu and that he was encouraging and eager to lend his support towards realisation of the new state.

“Senator Otu spoke to the beauty of the state and it’s future, encouraging stakehoders to unite and push towards its realization,” he said.

He also disclosed that beyond this, all the chairman, councillors, senators and paramount rulers from the proposed State are to awake and see necessity of the Ogoja State .

On his part, former military administrator of Kwara State Col. Pam Ogar Rtd, expressed unhappiness that out of the old provincial headquarters in Nigeria, it was only Ogoja that did not have the luck of being created a state.

He threw his weight fully behind the proposed state, saying it has the landmass, resources and personnel to manage its affairs.

On his part, Professor Francis Mogu, a former secretary of the Movement for the Creation of Ogoja State said lack of unity and infighting robbed Ogoja of statehood over the years

He, however, said despite that, God’s time is the best and the time for the actualization of the state is now.
