Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, will deliver a keynote address at the International Education/Study Abroad Fair 2024 in Ibadan on February 23, as his administration is determined to tap into global future opportunities and attract investors in the diaspora to invest in the rapidly developing education sector in the state.
Other dignitaries expected to speak at the one-day event include the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Botswana, Professor David Norris; Pro Vice-Chancellor of Global Engagement at INTI International University, Professor Goh Khang Wen, and Executive Director, First Bank of Nigeria Ltd, Mr. Olusegun Alebiosu, among others.
Nigerian Tribune gathered that the Study Abroad Fair will be held at the International Conference Centre, University of Ibadan, Oyo State, Nigeria.
According to a statement signed and made available to newsmen by the host and Partnership Director of the project, Lady Tolu Eledan, the summit with the theme “Accessing Education Beyond Borders; Embracing Global Opportunities” is aimed at bringing together renowned institutions, experts, decision-makers, and key influencers in the field of international education from around the world to exchange their ideas and knowledge in discussing the challenges and opportunities in the education sector.
She emphasized that the summit will focus on empowering aspiring students to make their education study plans.
Lady Eledan affirmed that the Study Abroad Fair & International Education Conference will also unite a global consortium of universities, institutions, and expert consultants under one roof, providing valuable information on educational opportunities and creating a gateway to a world of educational possibilities for students, researchers, and other stakeholders.
She stressed that Governor Makinde is keen on promoting collaboration in the global education community and showcasing Oyo State’s academic excellence that ensures equitable quality education where all acquire skills needed to promote sustainable development.
“It is evident that global education transformation lies at the heart of Governor Makinde, which made him allocate the largest share to the sector in the 2024 budget in compliance with UNESCO’s SDG goals.
“The governor intends to use the conference as a platform to achieve global partnerships and cooperation to revive the education system, make the state an education destination hub in Nigeria, and achieve the Sustainable Development Goals,” she added.
She noted that with a vibrant state population of youth, there is more to benefit from education, which implies a boost in economic growth and revenue generation for the state.
“The International Education conference will allow Governor Makinde to showcase the government’s efforts in the development of the education sector in Oyo State,” she added.
