Gov Idris sets up committee on power outages in Kebbi

Kebbi State, Governor Nasir Idris has constituted a high-level committee to investigate and proffer solutions to the persistent power outages affecting residents and businesses.

This is in a statement signed by Special adviser on media and publicity to Kebbi state governor, Yahaya Sarki on Monday.

The committee, which will be chaired by the Deputy Governor, Senator Umar Abubakar Tafida, is tasked with engaging relevant stakeholders and providing actionable recommendations that will lead to a more stable and reliable power supply in the state.

Governor Idris announced the formation of the committee shortly after attending a meeting of the Kebbi Elders Consultative Forum on Monday in Birnin Kebbi.

He used the occasion to reaffirm his administration’s unwavering commitment to addressing the issue, revealing that the Kebbi State Government has been providing monthly financial support of N150 million to the Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company (KAEDCO) to ensure continued electricity supply.

In addition to the financial intervention, the government has also procured 75 transformers and other vital electrical components, based on recommendations from KAEDCO, to boost electricity infrastructure across the state.

While acknowledging the growing public dissatisfaction over erratic power supply, Governor Idris made it clear that the fault lies with KAEDCO, not the state government. He emphasized that his administration has fulfilled its obligations and taken all necessary steps within its purview.

“Some residents of Kebbi State are complaining about lack of electricity. Some say they only get power for two or three hours a day. Honestly, I don’t know what’s happening. As far as we’re concerned, we’ve done our part and fulfilled our obligations. This is not what we agreed upon with them,” the governor lamented.
