The governor of Niger State, Muhammad Umaru Bago, has commended the Chairman of Agaie Local Government Council, Hon Ibrahim Halil Sayuti, for launching two books: “Niger State Under a Great Democrat” and “Local Government Councils in Nigeria.”
The Governor described the books as literary works and documentary evidence for posterity that will inspire him to undertake more development projects in the state.
Speaking during the book launch over the weekend in Abuja, Gov Bago, who was represented by Professor Mohammed Kuta, dedicated the credits in the books to his cabinet, the state legislature, the judiciary, and the citizens of the state.
“This effort is indeed documentary evidence for posterity, not only about my administration or my efforts, but it will be a reference material for those who aspire to be governors in the future. I express my sincere gratitude and remind all of us that on May 29th, 2023, at my inauguration, I indirectly signed a social compact with the state. I will continue to do my best with the cooperation of the citizens of the state who have continued to support my administration.
“All the credits contained in the book are not my own alone, but the collective efforts of my cabinet and all those who are associated with my government and the state as a whole.
“I will continue to appreciate the state Legislature, Judiciary, and the role of the local government in the delivery of the mandate as the governor,” he said.
Bago also appreciated the role of the communities in supporting his agricultural revolution and all the infrastructural development, stating that without their cooperation, he wouldn’t have achieved much.
He also appreciated the All Progressives Congress (APC) for giving him the platform to express himself in delivering service to the people.
In his speech, the writer of the books, Hon Sayuti, said the two books “Niger State Under a Great Democrat” and “Local Government Councils in Nigeria” are not just his words on paper; they are reflections of leadership, governance, and the aspirations of the people.
“This book is deeply inspired by the leadership of His Excellency, Governor Muhammad Umar Bago. As a son of Niger State and a local government administrator myself, I have had the privilege of witnessing firsthand the transformation taking place under his administration.
“Governor Bago came into office with a clear vision: A New Niger Agenda, and today, that vision is no longer just words; it is action, it is impact, and it is development.
“Across all 25 local government areas, we see new roads, improved healthcare facilities, etc. His focus on physical infrastructure is creating the foundation for long-term growth.
“With NigerFoods, Governor Bago turned our soil into treasure. With Niger State possessing the largest landmass in Nigeria, we are finally maximising our potential. Through NigerFoods, the state is positioning itself as a major player in food security, not just for Niger but for the entire nation.”
While noting that governance is not just about projects, Sayuti said the Governor’s commitment to ensuring better welfare for workers is a sign of leadership that prioritises the well-being of its people.
“Perhaps one of his greatest achievements is fostering unity. Niger State is home to diverse ethnic groups, political affiliations/parties, and religious beliefs. Yet, under his leadership, we have seen a state that is becoming more united, more inclusive, and more focused on collective progress,” he noted.
He said as the books are unveiled, he hopes they will serve as tools for learning, for inspiration, and for action. “Let them spark discussions in our schools, in government offices, in town halls, and in our communities. Let them challenge our leaders to do better and encourage citizens to participate more actively in governance,” he added.
