Governor Ahmad Aliyu of Sokoto State has announced the formation of a seven-member committee to investigate the recent fire outbreak at Kara Market’s timber shade, which destroyed property worth millions of naira.
The governor made the announcement on Friday during a visit to the site of the fire.
He expressed deep concern over the extent of the damage and prayed for divine intervention to restore the victims’ losses.
“The devastation here is unimaginable. I pray the Almighty Allah replaces what has been lost with something even better for the victims,” Governor Aliyu said.
The committee, which has three weeks to submit its findings, is tasked with investigating the cause of the fire, assessing the extent of the damage, identifying affected traders, and recommending assistance.
Members of the committee include Bello Idris, Prof. Musa Garba Maitafsir, Col. Garba Moyi Isa (rtd.), Ibrahim Chichi, and a representative of the Nigeria Police, with Muhammad Tsamiya serving as Secretary.
Governor Aliyu also urged citizens to exercise caution during the harmattan season.
He highlighted the increased risk of fire outbreaks due to the windy weather.
“We must be vigilant in handling inflammable materials to avoid such tragedies,” he advised.
Accompanied by dignitaries including All Progressives Congress leader Aliyu Wamakko and the Minister of Labour and Employment, Muhammad Dingyadi, the governor commended the Sokoto State Fire Service and residents for their efforts in controlling the inferno.
