Google has announced the global beta rollout of AI Max for Search Campaigns, an upgrade to its Search Ads platform that leverages artificial intelligence to help businesses connect with more relevant customers.
The new feature leverages the latest AI models to enhance ad targeting, ensuring businesses appear in more relevant searches, even when users do not type in the exact keywords the business might expect. The goal is to help businesses, especially local and small enterprises, reach a broader and more qualified audience.
According to the tech giant, this launch comes at a time when African businesses are navigating an increasingly digital economy, and with more people on the continent turning to Search to make decisions, opportunities abound for businesses to connect with more local customers have never been greater.

“People are asking more specific questions on Search, and they expect more helpful answers,” said Brian Burdick, senior director of Search at Google. “With AI Max, we’re using advanced AI to better understand those questions and help businesses show up at just the right moment, with content that’s more relevant and more likely to help people find what they’re looking for.”
Key features of AI Max include:
Search term matching automatically identifies relevant search queries that businesses may not have considered.
Dynamic text customisation, which updates ad copy in real time to better align with user intent.
Final URL expansion directs users to the most relevant landing page on a business’s website.
Control settings, which offer advanced filters for location targeting and brand preferences to give advertisers more control.

According to Google, AI Max not only streamlines the ad creation process but also helps businesses stretch their budgets by targeting higher-intent customers. Early results from global users show that businesses using AI Max saw an average 14 percent increase in conversions at a similar cost-per-action.
“We know many African entrepreneurs wear multiple hats. They’re managing stock, serving customers, and handling finances — often all at once,” added Burdick. “AI Max is about making their advertising work harder for them, not adding to their workload.”
