The Inspector General Of Police, Kayode Egbetokun has ordered a crackdown on the attackers of the Nganzai Divisional Police Headquarters in Borno State.
On Thursday, Boko Haram terrorists attacked the aforementioned police headquarters, resulting in the death of two officers and one critically injured.
The terrorists were eventually repelled in a joint effort with the civilian joint task force positioned near the police station.
Reacting to the incident on Friday, the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumiyiwa Adejobi revealed the identity of the police officers as Inspector Bartholomew Kalawa and Corporal Mustapha Huzaifat.
Adejobi revealed that Egbetokun condemned the act and ordered an immediate and thorough crackdown on those responsible.
He added that “cop-killers will not go unpunished.”
Speaking further, Adejobi disclosed that the IGP extended condolences to the victims’ families, emphasizing that their sacrifice in the line of duty will be remembered.
Egbetokun further assured the payment of benefits and entitlements of the fallen police officers.
“The IGP has therefore directed the Zone 15 Assistant Inspector-General of Police, AIG Kenechukwu Onwuemelie, fdc., to mobilise adequate resources and personnel, collaborate with other security agencies to ensure the perpetrators of this nefarious act are found and caused to face the full wrath of the law.
“As investigations continue, the IGP reaffirms the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to holding accountable those who jeopardise and disrupt the security arrangement and safety in Nigeria,” the statement added.
