German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier was welcomed by President Bola Tinubu in Aso Rock Villa, Abuja on Wednesday.
Steinmeier arrived in Abuja on Tuesday evening and was greeted by Tinubu at the Forecourt of the Villa at about 11:06 am (local time) on Wednesday.
The German president is accompanied by a business delegation of CEOs and high-ranking board members of some of Germany’s most successful companies in the fields of IT, high-tech and energy.
President Steinmeier’s country’s anthem welcomed his arrival and the Nigerian anthem was also played, with an inspection of the Guard of Honour mounted by the Presidential Brigade of Guards.
He was led by Tinubu into the latter’s office for a closed-door conversation following the 21-gun salute.
According to a statement issued on Monday, Steinmeier will also meet the President of the Commission of Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), Dr Alieu Touray.
Subsequently, he will proceed to Lagos to engage with business representatives and meet Nigeria’s cultural sector and civil society.
“There will also be an opportunity to tour the city of Lagos and gain insights into the urban development of a megacity, including environmental and social challenges,” the statement noted.
