….First project expected by April 2025
Genesis Energy Holding, a UK-based pan-African clean energy company, has signed a $500 million Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Katsina State Government to develop a range of major energy infrastructure projects aimed at boosting the state’s industrial and socio-economic growth.
The agreement establishes a strategic partnership for the development, financing, construction, operation, and maintenance of energy projects focused on delivering clean, reliable, and sustainable power across Katsina State.
Katsina governor, Dikko Radda, described the partnership as a milestone in the state’s push to tackle persistent energy challenges and attract private sector investment.
“This partnership is a significant step toward providing reliable, cost-effective, and environmentally friendly power solutions, fostering economic growth, and attracting investments to Katsina State. The first of the series of projects under this partnership will be commissioned before the end of April 2025,” Radda said.

The MoU outlines plans for a portfolio of clean energy projects, including solar, wind, hydro, mini-grids, and natural gas-based solutions.
The initiative is expected to transform Katsina into a clean energy hub in Nigeria and the broader West African region.
Chairman and CEO of Genesis Energy, Akinwole Omoboriowo II, said the collaboration aligns with the company’s long-term vision to expand energy access and drive economic development across the continent.
“Lighting up Africa is more than just a vision for Genesis; it is the very heartbeat that drives us,” Omoboriowo said. “We are committed to supporting Katsina State in achieving energy independence and positioning it as a major player in clean and renewable energy generation.”
The multi-phase energy projects are expected to power critical sectors such as healthcare, industry, and agriculture, while also contributing to Nigeria’s wider goals for energy security and a green transition.
