Ahead of the bye-election for Surulere Constituency 1, holding this weekend, Chief of Staff (COS) to the President, Rt. Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, on Thursday, urged residents of Surulere to come out en masse and vote for the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Mr Fuad Laguda.
Laguda is contesting the seat vacated by Gbajabiamila, following his appointment as COS to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Gbajabiamila, who represented Surulere Constituency I between 2003 and 2023, and was the immediate past Speaker of the House of Representatives, made the call as he led the final campaign rally for Laguda’s support.
The former House of Representatives Speaker led the rally from Teslim Balogun Stadium in Lagos to Masha Under Bridge.
Speaking during the campaign, Laduga, in his short remark, expressed confidence in his ability to emerge winner and thanked party faithful for the support, which he urged them to equally demonstrate with “same energy as we take to the polls on Saturday when the party will claim the mandate again.”
“I appreciate everybody out here today. This is large for the party and for us. You can see the amount of support given to us as a party as we go out campaigning. We pray for the same energy as we take to the polls on Saturday when the party will claim the mandate again,” he said.
Also speaking, a member, Lagos State House of Assembly representing Surulere Constituency, Hon. Desmond Elliott, equally charged people of Surelere to cast their vote for Laguda, come this Saturday.
The lawmaker further urged them to come out en mass early enough to discharge their civic duty, saying that Laguna who was vying for House of Representatives seat would by the grace of God emerge victorious.
“I want to urge every resident of Surulere to cast their vote for Fuad Laguda on Saturday. If voted, he will represent us at the Federal House of Representatives. Please come out early enough and vote. By the grace of God, we will get the victory,” Elliot stated.
Chairman of the APC in Surulere, Mr Sheriff Balogun, in his own remark, said Laguda had been chosen to flag the party’s flag in the bye-election holding this Saturday in Surelere, urging the people to also come out en mass to vote him.
“Today is the last day of campaigning for our candidate, Laguda, who we would like to represent us in the Green Chamber. I urge everyone in Surulere to come out en masse and vote for him to victory because if he is voted for, he will replace the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila,” the party boss said.
