The Senate of the Federal University, Oye Ekiti, has passed a vote of confidence in the leadership of the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Abayomi Fasina, applauding his exemplary and progressive administration.
The Senate, in a statement in Ado Ekiti on Thursday by the Special Adviser on Media to the VC, Dr Wole Balogun, dismissed the allegations levelled against the VC and disseminated through sensational media publications.
Some leaders of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities in the institution had, in a statement, accused the VC of reversing appointments by reassigning teaching staff to non-teaching roles, sexual harassment and victimisation of a union member, staff intimidation, administrative recklessness, and lack of financial accountability, among others.
Balogun stated that following a motion proposed by the Dean of the Faculty of Multidisciplinary Studies, Prof. Ayodele Fajimi, and seconded by the Dean of the Faculty of Arts, Prof. Bifatife Olufemi Adeseye, during the 70th Senate meeting held on Wednesday, the Senate unanimously endorsed and recognised Fasina’s leadership “for driving significant growth and development across the university.”
He said, “The Senate expressed its concerns regarding unsubstantiated allegations made against the VC and the university management.
“The Senate highlighted the importance of staff adhering to institutional rules and conducting themselves with decorum. Such actions harmed the university’s reputation and progress. A probe into the matter is strongly recommended.”
He said that the Senate celebrated FUOYE’s recent achievements, including its recognition as the 10th best university in Nigeria and 38th in Sub-Saharan Africa, according to the Times Higher Education rankings, saying, “This upward trajectory is as a testament to the effective leadership of Prof. Fasina and his team.”
