Inadequate funding has hindered the performance of the Jigawa State Hisbah Board, Arogidigba Global Journal reports.
This was part of the findings of a committee set up by Governor Umar Namadi to review Hisbah operations in the state.
Chairman of the review committee, who is also the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Bala Ibrahim, said there are deficiencies in the existing law, thereby resulting in the Hisbah operations being crippled.
He said the main mandate of the committee focused on the review of the legal framework in order to maintain or review the existing law.
According to him, “key recommendations of the report include increasing the number of personnel as well as the provision of adequate funding in order to reinforce the work of the Board”.
“The current Hisbah workforce of 1,700 across the state is too inadequate to cater for the operations of the Board,” he added.
The report recommended an increase in the number of personnel to 4,600, and adequate funding for the Board to function effectively.
Governor Namadi, after receiving the report, said the committee is one of the most important committees set up by the government in the state.
He added that when the report is implemented, Jigawa State would have the best Hisbah Board in the entire country.
The governor commended members of the committee for their commitment and dedication, and pledged to implement the recommendations.
He noted that the objective is to have a Hisbah Board that is credible and operational.
