Applications are now open for the 2025 US Embassy EducationUSA Opportunity Funds Program. The program helps top-performing students access quality U.S. education opportunities.The mission of the Opportunity Funds Program is to assist highly qualified international students with application costs, attracting top talent to U.S. colleges and fostering global competitiveness.

The EducationUSA network based out of the U.S. Embassy and Consulate in Nigeria strengthens American communities and classrooms by assisting highly qualified Nigerian students with the financial resources needed to cover up-front application costs, thereby attracting top talent to U.S. higher education institutions and fostering global competitiveness.

Eligibility Requirements

Each Opportunity Funds student undergoes a selective process of evaluation by an EducationUSA adviser, Regional Manager (REAC) and the Public Diplomacy Section of the U.S. Embassy/Consulate.

Undergraduate

Note: If WAEC results are not available, the student must be currently in SS3. If WAEC results are available, they must be from the May/June WAEC. Students who have already started a university education are not eligible to apply.

  • SS1 & SS2 end-of-year report (PDF files only)
  • Mock WAEC result or WAEC result (PDF files only)
  • Other supporting documentation (PDF files only)

Graduate

  • Copy of your university transcript, if available (PDF files only)
  • Copy of Statement of Result/Degree (PDF files)
  • Submit a detailed academic curriculum vitae (PDF files only)
  • Scanned copy of any supplementary certificates of achievement (PDF files only)
  • Copy of GRE result (recommended for engineering students) (PDF files only)
