The Federal University of Health Sciences, Otukpo (FUHSO), has announced Alhaji Bakura Jibrin, Professor Stephen Abah, and Mr Michael Ogiji as the university’s new Acting Chairman of Council, Vice-Chancellor, and Registrar, respectively.
This was contained in a statement signed by the Head of Information, Publication, and Public Relations, FUHSO, James Onogwu, and made available to newsmen in Makurdi on Saturday.
The statement said Alhaji Bakura Jibrin (Yobe) was elected as Acting Chairman of the Council of the university by the council members on Thursday, 28th November 2024, during the council’s meeting in Abuja.
“Consequently, the Senate of the university, at its meeting on Friday, 29th November 2024, nominated and recommended the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Professor Stephen Obekpa Abah, a Professor of Community Medicine and Public Health, to the council for approval as the new Acting Vice-Chancellor of FUHSO.
“The council also approved the appointment of Mr Michael Ogiji as the new Acting Registrar of the university.”
It recalled that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, on 20th November 2024, approved the removal of Engr. Ohieku Mohammed Salami as the Pro-Chancellor/Chairman of the Governing Council of the university over illegal actions, including the suspension of the pioneer Vice-Chancellor of the university, Professor Innocent Ujah, without following the prescribed procedures.
According to the image maker, the president’s approval, which was communicated through the Minister of Education, Dr Tunji Alausa, also directed that the council members should elect one person among the external members to serve as Acting Chairman of Council with immediate effect, pending the appointment of a substantive Chairman of the Council.
“The letter also directed the Senate of the university to nominate and recommend the most senior Deputy Vice-Chancellor to the council for approval as Acting Vice-Chancellor with immediate effect.
“The president further approved that the most senior Deputy Registrar be appointed as Acting Registrar with immediate effect in line with extant provisions.”
