Rivers Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara Friday made history when he swore in 9 Commissioners who are returning to his cabinet for a second time after willingly tendering their resignations.
The commissioners who also in an unprecedented move resigned their positions en masse in December at the heat of the political crisis in Rivers State were recently re-screened by the state house of assembly in another historic circumstance.
However, their re-screening and subsequent re-swearing on Friday were part of the 8- point Presidential Peace Proclamation by President Bola Tinubu to the warring parties of the Governor, Fubara and his predecessor and Minister of FCT, Nyesom Wike.
Conducting the exercise at the State Executive Council chamber of the Brick House Port Harcourt, Governor Fubara told the returning commissioners that it was imperative for them to engage in activities for which they would be positively remembered by posterity.
While observing that they have already read the charge as contained in their oath of office, Governor Fubara enjoined them to uphold and defend the state’s constitution.
He said; “I wish you well in your coming back. Stand for justice, and stand for the interests of our dear state. That is the purpose of your appointment and that is the truth.
“I can see how heavy your hearts are. But I assure you that I don’t have anything against any of you. You were caught in between during the crossfire.”
Governor Fubara spoke further: “I will advise that you give your best. Like I said the first time, let this State and posterity remember you for what is good.”
